Sajad presents Rs 2,000-crore vision document to revive livestock sector

To give fresh impetus to the livestock sector in the state, a vision document 2025 was discussed at a high-level meeting of officials of the Animal and Sheep Husbandry Department here today.

Union Secretary, Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries, Ashok Angurana, Secretary, Animal and Sheep Husbandry, Satish Nehru, directors and heads of various wings of the Animal and Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries departments, besides core group members of the vision document were present at the meeting.
While briefing the meeting about the vision document, the minister said a road map had been designed to revamp the livestock sector to achieve self-sufficiency in poultry, meat and milk in the state by 2025.
The Animal Husbandry Minister said the vision had a financial envelopment of Rs 2,031.23 crore.
Giving details, the minister said Rs 814.79 crore had been proposed in the document for dairy development, Rs 423.44 crore for poultry development, Rs 380 crore for the sheep sector and Rs 413 crore for feed and fodder development.
“The vision document was firstly presented to the Union Secretary and his team at Krishi Bhawan, Delhi, on December 1 and was agreed to in principle,” said the minister, adding that today’s threadbare discussion is a step forward to translate the vision into reality.
Sajad said the vision document had the potential to mitigate a huge annual capital flight of Rs 3,500 crore on purchase of poultry and meat in the state and help in making the state surplus in production.
